NHL Trade Deadline

The NHL trade deadline saw trades including a franchise legend, a point per game scorer, a former top five pick, and many more blockbuster deals.

Florida got the big deals started by acquiring former number four overall pick Seth Jones in exchange for goalie Spencer Knight, and their 2026 first round pick.

Possibly the most shocking trade went down between the Dallas Stars and Carolina Hurricanes. Mikko Rantanen, who was traded to Carolina on January 24, got sent to Dallas. The Hurricanes received 22 year old center iceman Logan Stankoven from Dallas, along with the Stars 2026 and 2027 first round picks. Rantanen signed an eight-year $96 million extension with the Stars as part of the deal. He declined more money from both Colorado, and Carolina before signing with Dallas.

Brad Marchand got sent to the Florida Panthers for their 2027 second round pick. Marchand sits in fourth place in games played in Bruins franchise history with 1,090. The 36 year old Marchand spent the first 16 seasons of his career in Boston.

Boston also sent Brandon Carlo to Toronto in exchange for Fraser Minten, their 2026 first round pick, and their 2025 fourth round pick.

Brock Nelson and William Dufour got sent from the New York Islanders to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Oliver Kylington, Calum Ritchie, and their 2026 first round pick.

Brandon Tanev got sent to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for the Seattle Kraken 2027 second round pick. Tanev has 17 points through 61 games played this season.

Buffalo sent Dylan Cozens, Dennis Gilbert, and their 2026 second round pick to Ottawa in exchange for Josh Norris, and Jacob Bernard-docker.

Philadelphia sent Scott Laughton, their 2025 fourth round pick, and their 2027 sixth round pick to Toronto for Nikita Grebenkin and their 2027 first round pick.

There is no clear favorite for the cup chase at this point in the season, but teams such as Dallas, Colorado, and Florida have all cemented their spots as top teams in the NHL.

Other notable trades- Martin Necas to Colorado, J.T. Miller to New York, Scott Laughton to Toronto, Casey Mittelstadt to Boston, Filip Chytil to Vancouver.
