Luka gets first triple-double against former team
Over the last few weeks, the biggest story in the NBA has been Luka Doncic's trade to the Los Angeles Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks. Last night was an emotional night for Luka because it was the first time he faced his former team since being traded. Everybody was prepared to see Luka put up the performance of his life, and he did not disappoint.
Luka recorded his first triple-double in a Lakers uniform and it could not have come at a better time than against the team that traded him, the Dallas Mavericks. Luka had 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists in the game, while also playing solid on the defensive side of the ball with 3 steals and 2 blocks.
He may not have shot the ball well, but his impact was huge. Luka started the game with 8 points before head coach of the Mavericks, Jason Kidd, decided to send double teams his way for most of the game. Luka drew a lot of attention, but we saw LeBron James taking over the 4th quarter last night. He was off-ball for most of the first half of the game. But he came into the 4th quarter with fresh legs and ready to end the game. He scored 16 of his 27 points in the 4th quarter.
Luka had no bad blood with his former teammates, but the animosity was more directed toward Mavericks general manager, Nico Harrison. After hitting a three-pointer, a picture was captured of Luka staring down the Mavericks bench, but in reality, he was staring down Nico Harrison. The Lakers visit the Mavericks in April for the final meeting of the regular season. This will be the first time Luka will play the Mavericks in Dallas since being traded. We can expect it to be yet another emotional night for not only Luka but the fans. I would not be surprised if Luka Doncic received a tribute video from Dallas.
