Anthony Rizzo; still looking for a home

Cubs Legend, Anthony Rizzo, is still seeking a job after the past two season with the Yankees have been subpar and injury plagued. The 3x all star and 4x gold glover who is 35 currently sits with no job, although he believes he can still benefit a team greatly. What are some teams that would give him a shot?

At age 35, a possible reunion with the Chicago Cubs may make sense for Rizzo as he doesn’t have much time left in the league… if any at all. With that being said, the Cubs have moved on. They are in a win now state for the next 5 years, where their goals will be to win a World Series. Reloading their roster with Kyle Tucker among others will help them achieve that. A possible washed up star, who will be costly for the talent that he’s going to provide, will not be worth it for a team like that.

But as many veterans who have played great earlier in their career and then start their downfall, there usually are teams that become “retirement homes.” As of late, those teams have become the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are starting to shift away from this with stars like O’Neil Cruz and Paul Skenes, but still a place where a veteran guy like Rizzo could land as they still aren’t quite ready for a World Series push.

As for the White Sox and Angels, they are two teams that could easily be teams for Rizzo to land. Both are sorry franchises who have yet to make moves that impact their team greatly. The White Sox roster is nearly unnameable, while the Angels have an injury plagued Mike Trout, a failed 200+ million dollar signing of Anthony Rendon, and mediocre rookies and subpar veterans looking to play a couple more years before they head off to Cancun for the rest of their retired life.

Anthony Rizzo, a World Series champ who has many accolades throughout his career with the Cubs, may be coming to an end but he is still hopeful that there is a team out there for him that is willing to take the risk of signing him, who’s been injured on and off and skill.

I believe Rizzo should be given a one year deal to prove that he can play another year or two, the veteran deserves that respect to be given another shot to prove himself. Plus, a team like the White Sox, A’s, Angels, etc who are struggling to get ticket purchases, a former superstar may help bring in some revenue.
