Amir “aura” khan
Amir “AURA” Khan took over March Madness this season. The unlikely hero for the McNeese Cowboys is not a player, or coach. He is the basketball team’s manager.
Khan went viral after a TikTok video was posted of him walking out with the basketball team holding a boombox. The video showed Khan rapping every lyric to the song “In and out” by Lud Foe.
Khan was seen in an interview saying “ if they kept manager stats for rebounding, and wiping up wet spots on the court I’d put up Wilt Chamberlain numbers.”
Khan is reported to have made over $100,000 in NIL deals since the video went viral. He dominated camera time during the Cowboys first round against Clemson.
Although Khan held a large spotlight during the game, fans quickly realized that the 12 seeded McNeese Cowboys came to play. They took a 21 point lead against the five seeded Clemson Tigers, just over halfway through the second half. Clemson fought back hard throughout the final eight minutes, but they were never able to complete the comeback. McNeese completed the upset with a final score or 69-67.
Khan walked the Cowboys out for their second round game against the four seeded Purdue Boilermakers wearing a yellow jumpsuit with the word “AURA” on the back. The magic wore off this round as Purdue dominated McNeese on the way to a 76-62 Purdue win.
Although it was only a short time, Amir Khan will go down as one of the March Madness legends along with names such as Jimmer Fredette, Adam Morrison, and DJ Burns.
