UFC 311: Last Minute Shakeup

With only one more sleep until the much anticipated UFC 311 taking place in Los Angeles, some unfortunate news was delivered by Dana White this afternoon. He announced that Arman Tsarukyan had to pull out of the main event against Islam Makhachev due to injury. Dana said that the reason was that Arman was having immense back pain…. So immense that he isn’t confident enough to step in the ring and fight in this condition. Who takes his place against the pound for pound best fighter in the world?

That would be Renato Moicano, who did weigh in at the championship weight of 155 the other day to officially make him the backup to either Islam or Arman. You may think that this is a massive step down, but Renato has been on a tear, with the longest active winning streak in the lightweight division with 5 straight wins and winning 6 of his last 7. Funny enough, in 2023 he actually had a fight with Arman scheduled but it ended up fizzling out of the card. With his well rounded skill set, he is a threat on the ground just as much as he is on the feet. He trained Judo as a kid, but has since mastered Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. With Renato being a massive underdog at odds of +750, this would be a major upset to the UFC world. If any fighter can step in at the last minute and strip Islam of his belt, Renato would have the best chance.
